You probably noticed that fragrance comes into a lot of forms, like perfume, cologne, and eau de toilette. But what is the difference between the different products? All fragrances are largely the same, but they’re given a name based on the concentration of oil in alcohol and oil additives.
Generally, Fragrance has five classifications depending on the proportion of the perfume oil concentrate, alcohol; and additives:
Eau fraiche – The most diluted version of fragrance, usually with one to three percent perfume oil in alcohol and water. Usually lasts for less than an hour;
Cologne (eau de cologne) – Oldest term for perfume, used in North America for masculine scents. Light, fresh and fruity, typically composed of two to four percent perfume oils in alcohol and water. Tend to be used in fragrances for younger people. It usually lasts for about two hours.
Toilette (eau de toilette) – A light spray composition with five to 15 percent pure perfume essence dissolved in alcohol. Usually lasts for about three hours.
Perfume (eau de parfum) – Historically genderless, used to describe both men’s and women’s fragrances. The best term used to describe a fragrance. Contains 15 – 20 percent pure perfume essence and lasts for about five to eight hours
Perfume – A corruption of the Latin phrase per fumum (through smoke). The most concentrated and expensive of all fragrance options. Slightly oilier, perfume, or parfum, is composed of 20 to 30 percent pure perfume essence. A single application of perfume can last up to 24 hours.
COSTS:
The cost of the fragrance varies as to its content, the amount and quality of the perfume oil, alcohol and the additives used to prolong its fragrance.
It is the cost of the percentage of the PERFUME OIL + ALCOHOL + FIXATIVE OIL, which are the basic raw materials being used to produce perfume.
RAW MATERIALS IN PERFUME MAKING
RAW MATERIALS IN PERFUME MAKING
The cost of pure perfume oil varies depending on the country of its origin. In our case, our perfume oils are prime perfume oils imported from Spain, Germany, and France, makers of the best perfume oils. Other perfume oil, such as sandalwood, was imported from India, where sandalwood is originally produced, while Sampaguita is produced in the Philippines.
The price of the 15 ml prime (pure) perfume oil is only at PHP 185.00, which already includes the bottle and dropper, in order not to dilute the fragrance whenever you are getting a fragrance to blend your own signature perfume. The retail market price of a 15 ml pure perfume oil costs from PHP 350.00 to PHP 450.00
A fixative is used to equalize the vapor pressures, and thus the volatilities, of the raw materials in perfume oil, as well as to increase the tenacity. In other words, to prolong the fragrance. Fixatives being used in perfumery are the following: Fresh Encap; Fixative Oil;
Glucan P-20; Muscol; and, Tonalid. There are other crystal fixatives such as MUSK.
The alcohol that is being used in perfumery is mostly ETHANOL ALCOHOL. There are others, however who uses ISOPROPYL or RUBBING ALCOHOL.
